Glasgow Christmas jobs: Royal Mail, HMV, River Island and more are hiring in the city now

Now that Bonfire Night is over and done with, the Christmas shopping season has officially begun.

For those wanting to earn some extra money to offset festive costs this year, there are plenty of seasonal job opportunities going in Glasgow.

Companies such as Royal Mail, HMV, Poundland, and Pizza Hut are all looking to recruit new staff to help out with the Christmas rush.

While the majority of positions are temporary, there are also a few that could potentially turn to longer-term work.

Here is a summary of the Christmas jobs going in Glasgow this year.

WHSmith

WHSmith are looking for a Customer Service Assistant in their Sauchiehall Post Office. Successful applicants will work 4-10 hours per week, with the potential for overtime, and will be paid the national minimum wage.

They say: “We have some great opportunities in our Post Offices, working in-front of the counter supporting customers with their queries and making sure they get everything they need. As you can imagine, in the run up to Christmas the Post Office is a busy place, so you need to be comfortable in this fast-paced, customer facing environment.”

The Perfume Shop

For those looking to work just a few hours a week, The Perfume Shop is advertising three part-time seasonal positions that are each only 4 hours per week. The roles, in its Silverburn Shopping Centre, Parkhead, and Braehead Shopping Centre stores, involve tasks such as assisting with wrapping gifts and greeting customers. A salary is not advertised for the positions.

TK Maxx is looking for Christmas staff in both its Port Glasgow and Hamilton stores. The hours for both roles will vary throughout the week. Neither position has a salary advertised but TK Maxx states that it is offering a “competitive rate of pay”.

Iconic jeans makers Levi Strauss & Co want a part-time Seasonal Stylist to help out at their Buchanan Street shop over the busy festive season. The job listing advertises a “competitive salary”, and whoever gets the job will be contracted to work 8 hours a week.

They say: “As a part time Stylist you will have the opportunity to deliver exceptional customer service and help customers choose their ideal outfit or searching for great Christmas gifts. Being a quick learner and adaptable is essential as there’s lot’s to learn ready for the Christmas period, plus different promotions and sales to help out with.”

Clarks has put out an advertisement for a Seasonal Sales Team Member for its Glasgow Fort branch. A salary is not stated, though Clarks calls it “competitive”, and the successful applicant will work 24 hours per week over two months.

Clothing company Joules is seeking Temporary Sales Assistants for its shops across Scotland, including Glasgow. The contracts available are for 8 hour working weeks, though salaries are not listed on the advertisement.

Danish variety store chain Flying Tiger is looking for Christmas Sales Assistants at both its Glasgow Central and East Kilbride branches. The roles are both temporary, and a salary is not listed, but there is the potential for the successful applicants to become full-time staff members.

Budget chain Poundland is looking to fill three seasonal positions in its Coatbridge and Irving shops. The former branch is looking for two Sales Assistants, while the Irvine shop wants to hire a Christmas Temp. The positions will last until the end of December.

Media chain HMV is seeking a Seasonal Sales Assistant to help replenish stock and offer customers assistance over the Christmas period. A salary is not advertised but the successful applicant would be required to work 10 hours per week.

Pizza Hut wants a Christmas Team Member to help out at its Falkirk branches over the festive season. It is offering fixed-term contract and the successful applicant will be paid “up to £8.91 per hour plus tips”.

They say: “We’re looking for team members who want to work somewhere they can belong over the Christmas period (anything from 2 – 8 weeks). Working alongside our existing teams to ensure that at the busiest time of year, we are able to keep the restaurant running as efficiently as Santa’s workshop!

Jewellery company Pandora are seeking a Seasonal Sales Assistant in their Braehead store. The contract ends on January 9. The salary of the role is not stated on the advertisement, but Pandora calls it “competitive”.

Royal Mail

Unsurprisingly, Christmas is the Royal Mail’s busiest time of the year, and so they are looking for Seasonal Mail Sorters to help manage the festive rush at their Scottish Distribution Centre in Wishaw. Successful applicants will be paid £11.40 for day shifts and £13.70 for night shifts.

They say: “Just like Mr & Mrs Claus, you’ll play a key role in bringing Christmas to people across the UK! As a Mail Sorter, you’ll be unloading mail and parcels from our vans, moving them through our warehouses and ensuring that they arrive at their destination safely. During a single shift, you could sort over a million items with your team! It’s a very important role so flexibility, commitment and enthusiasm are key.”

Clothing chain Next are looking for seasonal staff to help out over the Christmas season in their Glasgow Fort store, including their Boxing Day sale. The successful applicant would work an average of 14.25 hours per week over six weeks, and would be paid between £6.55 and £8.91 per hour.

They say: “We need support in the run up to Christmas for between 3-12 weeks work. This will include our busiest time of year and the Next Sale which starts on Boxing Day.”

Motherwell Pharmacy is “urgently” recruiting Temporary Christmas Staff. The pharmacy does not advertise a salary but offers “possible long term career opportunities” and a “flexible working pattern”.

They say: “We have a number of positions available over the festive period which will give successful candidates the opportunity to help provide vital healthcare to the local community. This is the ideal position for someone with previous retail or pharmacy experience. The successful candidate should be someone who enjoys working to deadlines and as part of a team.”

Clothing giant River Island wants a Seasonal Sales Advisor in its Cumbernauld store to work weekends over Christmas, as well as Christmas Eve, Boxing day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day. The role will pay £9 per hour.

Fashion and homeware chain Oliver Bonas is advertising a seasonal fixed term contract that will end on January 9. The job is at its Glasgow Central Station store, and the successful applicant will be paid £9 per hour.
