Glen Affric’s Caledonian Forest among six stunning woodlands to feature in new Royal Mail stamp series marking the centenary of the Forestry Commission; Sherwood Forest, Kielder Forest, Coed y Brenin, and Glenariff Forest among the others; stamps will go on sale in Post Offices on August 13

GLEN Affric will take centre stage on mail across the UK after a stunning image of the Highland beauty spot featured in a new series of Royal Mail stamps.

The classic viewpoint westward along the loch features in the new six-strong series of stamps, which all feature beautiful and inspirational views of forests from across the British Isles.

The launch marks the 100th anniversary of the Forestry Commission, which was founded in September 1919 in a bid to reforest the UK following hefty clearances in World War I to fuel the war effort.

Valued for their environmental benefits, such as cleaner air, flood prevention and providing habitats for wildlife, the UK’s forests generate hundreds of millions of visits per year – enabling the public to enjoy woodlands for activities from walking and picnicking to birdwatching and mountain biking.

And the stamps, which showcase the character and varied colours of the UK’s forests, are available to pre-order now from www.royalmail.com/forests

As well as Glen Affric, other UK locations to feature include Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, Kielder Forest in Northumberland, Gwynedd’s Coed y Brenin and Glenariff Forest in County Antrim.

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum in Glouctershire, is also included.

Although the Forestry Commission retains responsibility for forests and woodlands in England, its roles have since been devolved in Scotland.
