GMP sees rise in drug-filled illegal parcels in Whitefield

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say they have set up an operation because of a rise in the seizures of parcels coming into the UK, and say they have noticed an increase in these crimes in Whitefield, Bury specifically.

Operation Concept is the name for the collaborative work between UK Border Force, Royal Mail, the Regional Organised Crime Units and the GMP.

Police are urging people to get in touch if they receive items in the post that they think are suspicious or if they receive a parcel to their address under a different name.

They say you should also tell them if you notice parcels are repeatedly directed to your address but are intended for somebody else, or if you notice anybody suspicious trying to intercept post from delivery drivers.

People can contact the police about this using 101, Online Report, or CrimeStoppers.

GMP’s Facebook post from PC Stodart, part of the Whitefield Policing Team, read: “Operation Concept is Greater Manchester Police’s name for the collaborative work between the UK Border Force, Royal Mail, Regional Organised Crime Units and GMP.

“The operation has been set up due to an increase in seizures of packages coming into the UK containing either drugs, weapons, or other illegal items.

“We have noticed an increase in crimes in relation to Operation Concept in the Whitefield Area.

“Please let us know via 101, Online Report or CrimeStoppers, if any of the following apply:

• You receive items, in the post, that you believe are suspicious;

• You receive a parcel to your address, under a different name;

• Parcels are repeatedly directed to your address, intended for another recipient;

• You notice suspicious persons attempting to intercept post from delivery drivers.”
