Guernsey Post letter prices to rise from April

The cost of posting a local letter in Guernsey will go up by 4p and it will cost 17p more to post a letter to the UK from next month, the island’s postal service has said.

Guernsey Post blamed the increase, to come into effect on 1 April, on “unprecedented” supply chain costs.

The cost of sending a local letter will rise to 69p, with letters to the UK to cost £1.37, it said.

The postal service said it was freezing the cost of local parcel rates, UK large parcels and UK £5 fixed return services for 2025.

Despite the rise, Guernsey Post said the cost of sending letter post was still lower than Jersey, where local letter post costs 80p, while Royal Mail first class costs £1.65.

Steve Sheridan, Guernsey Post’s chief executive, said: “While we have worked hard to absorb many of these increases, we cannot avoid passing some on.

“However, where we have direct control over pricing, such as within the bailiwick, we have tried to keep any increases broadly in line with local RPI [retail price index], the exception to this being our local parcel rates, which we are pleased to have been able to freeze.”

He said the fixed returns service rate was a growing service and has been frozen for the second consecutive year.

Mr Sheridan added: “Our focus remains on delivering excellent service whilst balancing the financial pressures affecting the postal and logistics industry.”
