Halstead Empire’s Encanto showing raises £850 for Ukraine

HUNDREDS more funds have been raised in the fight to help Ukraine, as a theatre has played its part in the ongoing support.

The Halstead Empire Theatre raised £850 for the Ukraine appeal, through its showing of Encanto on March 12.

The popular Disney film was the chosen showing where all funds were donated directly to the MAD-Aid Charity who are providing support for the refugees from the conflict.

MAD-Aid have one small team in the UK who step forward to help with various tasks and events.

On the ground in Moldova, the charity supports a team of 16 who deliver the aid brought in from the UK throughout the country and work and play daily with the children in Phoenix Centre

The Theatre are working in partnership with the CWU at Royal Mail who already support the charity MAD-Aid, who are helping some of the 100,000 Ukrainians who have taken refuge in Moldova.

At the CWU Royal Mail, they are collecting vital supplies to take to Moldova, they have been providing support for some considerable time, and have the knowledge and experience to deliver these to the areas where they are most needed.

The money raised will either go direct to Moldova, or it will be used to buy and supply some of the important items required, like bedding, towels, duvets, and blankets.

Chairman of the Empire Theatre Trust Mike George said: “We would like to thank everyone who came to the Theatre on the 12th and also thank the two people who donated larger sums to the cause.

“The Theatre intends to continue its support for the MAD-Aid charity with the new partnership with the CWU Union at the Royal Mail, and we hope to have further fundraising events in the future for this very worthy cause.

“Thank you all once again.”
