Hanley Post Office is in The Potteries Centre
The long-term future of a city centre post office branch remains uncertain – after the impending sale of WHSmith. Hanley Post Office has been inside WHSmith in The Potteries Centre ever since leaving its Tontine Street HQ.
But WHSmith has agreed to sell its UK high street chain to Modella Capital in a £76 million deal and its future direction is still not known. The business will later rebrand as TG Jones – affecting 480 stores and 500 staff.
A Post Office spokesperson said: “We are engaging closely with WHSmith and Modella, the new owner of its High Street business, to understand more about their plans. We know Modella is very enthusiastic about having Post Offices in their stores, as they bring footfall into those shops and generate significant revenues; and we believe that they could look to increase the number of stores that contain Post Offices in the future. We look forward to working with Modella as the sale progresses.”
