Harrogate tech firm sets sights on further US growth

Spatial analysis and planning solutions company Geoplan is celebrating its 35 year anniversary and a record year of growth.

The firm reports a 2019 turnover of £2.3m, up 10.1 per cent on 2018.

It predicts 13 per cent growth in 2020, and as a result said it will now extend its offering in the US market where it has existing relationships with major brands including Pizza Hut and KFC.

Launched in 1984, the company now employs 25 specialists and has pivoted to a tech business.

It began digitising hand-drawn maps for Royal Mail in its formative years, and now delivers a suite of spatial analysis solutions that are trusted by brands including Yell and Hermes.

It now uses algorithms, combined with cloud-based mapping platform, to allow businesses to better understand their data.

Operating in 50 countries worldwide, MD John Taylor said high levels of investment into R&D has been pivotal to Geoplan’s global success.

“The scale of technical and cultural change has been immense, impacting what is possible and what is expected as standard,” he said.

“We have adapted and evolved, which has been key to our success. Fundamentally, our core experience and skills in understanding and solving problems, continues to deliver the edge that our customers need.”

Located in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Geoplan is based in a Georgian Grade II listed mansion house, which the company has itself restored.
