Haverfordwest postmaster celebrates 30 years in post

Nik Ingle, a popular figure in the community, has spent 30 years operating the Dew Street Post Office at 85 Dew Street, Haverfordwest.

Commenting on his job satisfaction, Mr Ingle said: “I never have the Monday blues.

“I always enjoy coming to work.

“No two days are the same and I love serving the community.”

The story of the Ingle family and their connection with the Post Office goes back to his mother, Anita. Initially, the family had a Post Office in Caernarvonshire before moving to Haverfordwest in 1987.

In 1988, she became postmistress for Dew Street, before Mr Ingle took over the reins in 1994.

At the age of 84, Mrs Ingle keeps herself active by making handmade cards, which are sold in the shop along with a range of cards and confectionery.

Mr Ingle’s team consists of loyal employees Ann and Helen.

Together, they managed to keep the Post Office open during the covid-19 pandemic.

Due to bank closures and limited banking hours, the Post Office experienced a threefold increase in deposits and cash deposits, as well as a rise in the sale of foreign currency and travel money cards.

Operating alongside traditional Royal Mail and Parcelforce services, Dew Street Post Office also offers the courier services of EVRI, DPD, and Amazon.

Mr Ingle expanded on this, saying: “Customers like the choice of providers and they can use price, speed, level of compensation and the contents to be sent to decide what is right for them.

“People also really like to be able to collect parcels from the branch as they are securely stored until the customer collects.”

To commemorate his 30-year service, Post Office regional manager, Lynn Lewis, presented Mr Ingle with the Post Office 30 Years’ Long Service Award.

Post Office area manager, Ryan Leonard, said: “Nik has loyally served this Dew Street community for three decades.

“I really want to thank him for this committed service.

“Nik runs a 1st class Post Office.”
