He was tired of waiting for Royal Mail so took matters into his own hands

A man who was tired of waiting for delayed post took matters into his own hands with the help of his MP.

David Foster lives in Kirkby and claims he has been experiencing problems with his mail delivery for the last few months. After submitting numerous complaints, he contacted his then local MP, George Howarth who contacted Royal Mail on his behalf

After the intervention of his MP, David said the delivery service improved and he began receiving his mail on a regular basis and in timely fashion.

However, three weeks ago, David requested important documents from his pension provider, but after a few days of waiting he said those documents never arrived. In fact, he claims to have waited two weeks just in case there was an understandable delay with the service.

Tired of waiting and worried about where the sensitive paperwork could be, David contacted his pension provider who assured him the documentation had been sent out. After explaining he had waited for two weeks and received no post, the pension provider agreed to another mailout and confirmed the information would be sent out in the middle of last week. However, David claims his documents have still not arrived and he doesn’t know where they are.

The ongoing issues with his mail has led to further worries for David as he discussed the potential problem for postal votes for the upcoming election tomorrow July 4. He tends to vote at the local polling station, but is worried for people like his elderly mother who relies on the postal vote system.

Due to his mum’s mobility issues, David had worried whether his mum would in fact have enough time to send her vote and it be accepted. He said: “I was concerned that some people might not have there postal votes yet and my mum has got hers but she only ended up wit 6-7 days to get it sorted”.

In the run up to this weeks general election, there have been numerous reports of problems with the postal voting system and in particular, an alleged backlog. The Liverpool ECHO has spoken to a number of constituents in Kirkby and Sefton who said they have experienced delays, but the Royal Mail denies there is any issue with postal votes.

In terms of David’s situation, the ECHO understands Royal Mail has concluded an investigation into David’s claims and indicated there is no backlog at the local delivery office. Furthermore, the delivery service claims it has checked its records for David’s address in Kirkby and discovered no outstanding mail for delivery.
