Fans of the classic ITV drama, Heartbeat, have a unique opportunity to purchase the iconic Aidensfield post office as it hits the market for £290,000. The property, a significant feature in the beloved series which starred notable actors such as Nick Berry, Mark Jordon and Bill Maynard, is now for sale.
Heartbeat enthusiasts will recall that in the series, Derek Fowlds, known for his role as the cantankerous Sergeant Oscar Blaketon, took over the operations of the post office after retiring from police duties due to a heart attack. Today, the Goathland Post Office and gift shop, prominently displaying the ‘Aidensfield’ sign at the front, awaits new ownership.
The semi-detached listing doesn’t just come with a post office; it boasts four bedrooms and two bathrooms, offering ample living space. Throughout its many years, it has been a focal point of village life, serving as a tobacconist and newsagent on the show.
Heartbeat captured hearts across the nation throughout its long run from 1992 to 2010. Throughout its production, the post office catered to both the everyday needs of local patrons and the filming needs of the Heartbeat cast.
Now fans can own a slice of UK TV heritage and even continue to run the very same post office featured in the series. The ground floor of the house includes the operational post office and retail area, complemented by two offices, a storage room and a kitchen area.
Reflecting on the show’s legacy, the owner reminisced: “They used to take our stuff out and put theirs in, and we would continue to operate as a Post Office around the production. We were like a big family it was a great experience being here with the cast and crew.”
The village is a magnet for thousands of tourists annually, with Heartbeat enthusiasts flocking to snap selfies at the renowned filming spots. The property is centrally located in Goathland, within easy reach of local pubs including the well-known Aidensfield Arms as well as cafes and shops.
The village’s railway station also holds cinematic fame, having been depicted as Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter series.
