As the sun began setting in the western skies over Henley-upon-Thames yesterday, revellers at the society event of the year seemed to have enjoyed the Champagne on offer.
Young men and women could be seen swigging straight from bottles sitting on the riverbank and on board various small craft.
Armed police passed up and down the river onboard a rigid inflatable boat, providing a constant reminder of the possible threat to major events.
Some 650 crews have registered to participate in this weekend’s event which is one of the highlights of the social season.
