Hermes Delivery Driver Hides Sports Direct Parcel In ‘Secure Location’ Under Doormat

A customer was left questioning how Hermes define a ‘secure location’ after returning home to find her parcel ‘hidden’ under her doormat.

The 28-year-old – who wished not to be named – was shocked to find her Sports Direct parcel had been stashed under the mat at the entrance to her flat in Liverpool on Thursday.

Of course, if she had ordered a ping pong bat or something flat like that, then this wouldn’t really be such an issue. However, her order was rather bulky, and as you can see, the under the mat technique didn’t really do the trick.

Clearly though, the delivery driver was satisfied with their work, with the order’s online tracking information confirming it had been left in a ‘secure location’.

Despite being a little miffed that the delivery driver had essentially left the parcel up for grabs, the woman has clearly been able to see the punny side of things.

She said: “This service was a little more royal fail than Royal Mail – even if it was delivered by Hermes.

“I had come home from the pub when I spotted the parcel, and at first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. But no – the courier apparently really did think ‘hiding’ the package under the mat like that, leaving it clearly visible to anyone wandering past, was acceptable.

“At the time, I laughed to myself but the next day I was quite annoyed anyone in the building could’ve spotted it.

“I’ve heard bizarre tales about couriers before, but this really was the good, the bad and the rug-ly.”

Now I don’t know about you, but that’s two more loosely relevant puns than I would care to make when ‘quite annoyed’. It doesn’t end there though folks, ’cause there is a bit of an ironic twist to the tale – which once again, the woman decided to have a bit of pun with.

She said: “The worst thing was, the reason why the parcel was so bulky was because Sports Direct had given me a free giant mug with my order.

“I didn’t even want the mug, so clearly it was me who got mugged off in the end.”

Hermes were much less whimsical about the whole thing though.

A spokesman said: “We apologise for the inconvenience. We will speak to the courier to ensure this does not happen again.”
