Hollywood heartthrob James Marsden reveals his go-to Sydney pub

James Marsden reveals his favourite pub in Sydney… after he spent a year living in the city while filming Superman Returns

James Marsden was based in Australia for a year while filming Superman Returns.

And the American actor, 46, has now revealed his favourite local haunt during his months living in Sydney in 2005 and 2006.

He lived in Paddington and his pub of choice was the Royal Hotel on Glenmore Road.

James spoke about his memories of Sydney while promoting his latest film, Sonic the Hedgehog, with his co-star Ben Schwartz.

Radio presenter Ryan Fitzgerald joked: ‘The last time you were in Sydney, the Royal Hotel in Paddington [had a] photo up of James that said, “Do not serve this man.”‘ 

His co-host, Michael Wipfli, added: ‘[There are] rumours of you arriving in Sydney and effectively moving into the pub.’

‘I guess I did [like the Royal], I don’t really remember it… oh yes, the Royal! I lived nearby,’ the Hollywood star replied.

James lived in a converted loft in the old Royal Hospital for Women, and would frequently wander down to the pub for a drink.

In May 2018, James spoke to The Daily Telegraph about living in Sydney for 11 months while filming Superman Returns.

At the time, he said he would visit Bondi or Tamarama or ride a seaplane out of Rose Bay when he wasn’t spending time in Paddington.  

‘One thing I didn’t get to do that I regret is going up to Byron Bay,’ he added.

Sonic the Hedgehog is released to Australian cinemas on February 14
