Home Affairs to miss TJ Smith Stakes to focus on Royal Ascot

The Chris Waller stable has confirmed Home Affairs won’t run in the TJ Smith Stakes during The Championships.

Star colt Home Affairs will bypass the TJ Smith Stakes with the valuable three-year-old now set to be readied for a Royal Ascot assault later this year.

Trainer Chris Waller has confirmed his two-time Group 1 winner will miss Sydney’s marquee autumn sprint on day one of The Championships at Randwick after pulling with tightness following the Newmarket Handicap.

Home Affairs, a winner of the Lightning Stakes earlier this year, finished ninth in the Newmarket at Flemington after jumping as one of the leading contenders.

“Home Affairs pulled up bright and well following the Newmarket Handicap however does have some tightness across his back and hind quarters,” Waller’s statement read.

“We have therefore made the decision that rather than running him in the TJ Smith, he will have some quiet time over the next two weeks while we concentrate on a Northern Hemisphere campaign including Royal Ascot.

“We will keep you informed once plans are finalised.”

Home Affairs had been rated an $8 chance in betting for the TJ Smith Stakes but has since been removed fro TAB betting where stablemate Nature Strip is the $2.80 top elect.

Coolmore are keen to test Home Affairs in the Northern Hemisphere and chase a Group 1 on both sides of the equator, which would make their son of I Am Invincible even more valuable as a breeding prospect.

The colt won the Coolmore Stud Stakes last spring and boasts a record of four wins and two placings from nine starts.
