‘Homemade explosive’ sparks bomb squad call-out in Chippenham

A ‘homemade explosive’ sparked a bomb squad call-out in Chippenham last night.

Police attended an address in Hill Rise after a suspicious item was set alight in a residential garden on Sunday evening (23 March).

On inspecting the device, officers cordoned off the area and alerted the Royal Logistic Corps’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.

The idea was scanned by explosive experts and it was deemed to be a “homemade firework”, according to Wiltshire Police.

Now the force are appealing for witnesses to anyone acting suspiciously in the area between 6pm and 7pm.

Police confirmed that no damage was caused to the property and nobody was injured.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting log 265 of 23 March.
