Homeowner left in stitches after seeing where postman left parcel

A postman has been jokingly accused of “choosing violence” over his peculiar choice of where to leave a parcel. When Royal Mail delivers an item and the recipient isn’t home, they typically leave a red card which offers instructions on arranging a redelivery, or details a safe location the parcel has been left in.

TikTok user Kaiyu Lin was taken aback when he received a red card informing him that his parcel had been left near the “side of [the] blue bin” – despite not owning a blue bin. He captured the situation on video and shared it with the masses online.

In the clip, Kaiyu focuses on the red card before revealing his dark green bins. He then pans the camera to show the actual location of his parcel, which wasn’t near a blue bin at all but rather near his blue car.

In text overlaying the footage, Kaiyu humorously added the words: “The disrespect”, with many jumping to the conclusion his blue car had been branded a “bin” by the delivery card.

In the caption accompanying the clip, he wrote: “Postman woke up and chose violence”. Fellow TikTok users were eager to share their thoughts in the comments section.

One person commented: “Postie throwing shade”.

Another shared their own amusing experience: “My email notification read ‘handed to resident’. It was beside the bin. The bin. I know I can look rough sometimes but I’ve never been mistaken for a bin.”

A third said: “Made me laugh so much”.

Another user said: “Mine usually takes a photo of my dogs barking in the window as the proof picture”.

Yet another joked: “Postie forgetting he’s driving a red bin”.

One TikTok user shared their own experience, saying: “Posties have a wicked sense of humour. The only time I’ve seen mine laugh is when he dropped the parcel marked fragile. The contents were fine and we both had a laugh.”

Another user recounted: “I’ve had a notification on Amazon before ‘left by pool’. Where is this pool you speak of? We do not have a pool. Show me the pool!”

A different person commented: “Nah I’d be laughing so much fair play”.

Another added: “I think he was too rushing or stressed out of his work load to have noticed it was actually a car, please forgive him”.

Some speculated that Kaiyu may have written the comment on the Royal Mail Something For You card himself as a joke for social media.

Royal Mail explains: “Sometimes we can’t deliver an item to you because nobody was there to sign for it, or if it was too big for your letterbox.

“We know you can’t always get to your local delivery office to collect it, so we are happy to make a Redelivery:

  • free to your own address.
  • free to another address in your postcode area.
  • or free to your local Post Office branch.”
