During the State Banquet to mark Donald Trump’s unprecedented second State visit, the US President branded it ‘truly one of the highest honours of my life’.
Royal experts on the latest episode of Palace Confidential, the Daily Mail’s popular YouTube panel show, explained just how King Charles ‘paved the way’ for the £250billion tech deal that was announced at Chequers on Thursday.
While Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that £250billion would be ‘flowing both ways across the Atlantic’, he confirmed that US companies have pledged £150billion worth of investment in the UK, which is set to create 7,600 jobs.
Richard Eden, the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor, said: ‘I think visits like this just show the willingness, the keenness to do deals. That’s the whole point of it. It oils those wheels of trade.’
Rebecca English, the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor, also stars on Palace Confidential. She confirmed that the royal element of the visit has been hailed as an ‘absolute triumph’.
Having rushed back from her ringside seat at Windsor, she said: ‘These State Banquets are designed to flatter and to foster good relations.
‘There was definitely an element from the moment he arrived, from the carriage rides to the Beating the Retreat to the amount of military and colours on display to the little details at the State Banquet – all of that was just slightly above and beyond what we have seen in previous years.
‘That was a very deliberate message by Buckingham Palace: “We value this relationship with you and your country”.’
