Princess Mary’s bridesmaid says she struggled for 10 years after losing her best friend to the Danish Royal Family.

She said the situation eventually led her to the ‘spiritual world’ to cope with her feelings of isolation and paranoia.

‘Losing my best friend in a sense, I mean we are still really close, but losing her after the royal wedding was a really difficult 10 years,’ she told the Herald Sun.

Ms Petty moved from Tasmania where she had been childhood friends with Princess Mary known then as Mary Donaldson, to Adelaide where she worked in commercial radio.

After suffering a series of relationship breakdowns Ms Petty felt she was at breaking point.

‘I wasn’t in a good emotional space and it really forced me to either fall off the grid mentally, or to seek help. So I found a local energy healer.’

She said the energy healer helped her tap into her spiritual side that had become ‘closed down’.

She has now moved to Melbourne where she gives oracle readings at her establishment The Tarot Teahouse.

She has also written a book about her battles and newfound spiritual awakening which she plans to release later this year.

In the book she talks about her relationship with her father.

‘One of the big issues which stems from my childhood was fearing love, thinking it would always be taken away from me because of the relationship I had with my father. Then ending up in the spotlight of my best friend’s huge love story’.

Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark met at a Sydney pub when he was visiting during the city’s hosting of the Olympics in 2000.

The pair became engaged in 2003 and have since had four children – Prince Christian in 2005, Princess Isabella in 2007, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine in 2011.

They are next in the line of succession to be the King and Queen of Denmark.
