How to get free Royal Mail letter from Santa as deadline is tomorrow

All you need to know about Royal Mail’s free letter from Santa service

• Royal Mail offers a service where your child can write a letter to Santa based on their Christmas wish list and you’ll get a free reply back. However, there is a deadline for your letter to reach Santa, and this year it’s Wednesday 10 December 2025.
• Make sure you list down all your child wants for Christmas in the letter and send it to Santa/Father Christmas, Santa’s Grotto, Reindeerland, XM4 5HQ. Don’t forget toinclude your child’s full name and your full return address on the back of the envelope — that way Santa can send a reply.
• You’ll also have to put a real UK stamp on the envelope (1st or 2nd class). The ‘free letter’ refers to Santa’s reply — you still have to pay normal postage. However, you don’t need to include an extra stamp for his reply.
• You can request replies in different formats if needed: for example in Braille or large print. This can be arranged by emailing santamail@royalmail.com.
• Royal Mail states there’s no guarantee of a reply, if there is high demand, not every letter may get answered, unfortunately. Hopefully yours will make it in time for your child to have a magical Christmas.
• The ‘official’ Santa Mail scheme run by Royal Mail dates back to 1963. In its first year, there were just five clerical assistants handling about 8,000 cards/letters addressed to Santa. In its initial year, around a quarter of submitted letters didn’t include the child’s address on the back so couldn’t be responded to. Over time it’s become a nationwide Christmas-time tradition and Royal Mail helps “Santa and his elves” manage hundreds of thousands of letters every year across the UK.
• According to surveys of letters received by Royal Mail over the years, popular toys requested by kids include brands like Playmobil, Lego and Barbie, showing the scheme gives some insight into children’s toy wishes each year.
