HUGE potholes on Oxfordshire road to finally be repaired thanks to councillor

A set of huge potholes filled with water on an Oxfordshire road are finally getting repaired thanks to the tireless efforts of a district councillor.

South Oxfordshire District Councillor for Didcot Ian Snowdon first alerted residents to the dangerous road conditions on January 27, reporting it as an emergency to senior highway officers.

The potholes are located on the A4130 heading towards Wallingford, just past Hadden Hill Golf Club, and are nearly 10cm deep and filled with water.

Traffic lights were installed soon after to allow cars to safely manoeuvre around the holes and prevent further damage to drivers’ cars.

He had officers agree that work to replace the length of pipe work entirely would be carried out between 8pm and 11pm only, and traffic lights would be out of use at all other times.

In welcome news, he said there should be a permanent solution to the leak and the full reinstatement of the road surface by Saturday – with more updates to follow.

Cllr Snowdon said: “I’m pleased Highways Officers agreed that Thames Water have shown a total disregard to residents at this location in the past and have finally taken a strong stance on these works at this location.”

The licence for the work confirms the agreement that it will only be completed in the evening and lights would be off when not in use.
