A Hull woman says she is “disgusted” after Christmas presents her son sent to her via Hermes arrived and were already “open” – and in different packaging to what they had been sent in.
Kerryann Mcildoon’s son, Daryl, lives in Luton and, for the past few years, has sent Christmas presents to her via Hermes because he has been unable to visit over the festive period.
But this year, after sending his mother’s Christmas presents to her address in east Hull, things did not go to plan.
Ms Mcildoon says the item was due to arrive on Tuesday but never turned up. And when her son contacted Hermes, she says he was told the label was damaged so it was not delivered.
Her son then called her to say it would then be arriving on Thursday, with Ms Mcildoon’s neighbour accepting the item for her, which is what usually happens when she is not in.
But she was later horrified to discover the item arrived in a completely different box to the one her son had sent them in and that the Christmas presents appeared to have been “opened”.
“My son lives in Luton,” she said.
“He sent me my Christmas presents through Hermes, the couriers. He phones me on Tuesday and said you should receive the parcel between 10am and 2pm.
“He [my son] said did you get the parcel? I said, no I didn’t get the parcel.
“[he was told] The label was damaged on the box so they couldn’t deliver it.
“My son phoned on Thursday morning and said your parcel is coming today.
“The box wasn’t properly sealed and the presents have been opened.”
Ms Mcildoon says the box they were sent in had a label on for a “shower greyhound coat”.
“It’s not even a proper box,” she said. “There was one strip of Sellotape on the top.
“It was as if somebody has opened the box and Sellotaped it back up.
“My son said, I didn’t put it in that box, I got a Royal Mail box from the Post Office.
“My son is disgusted. The box has been opened and the presents were open.
“He wrapped them in Christmas paper. They have opened them quite a bit.
“I’m absolutely disgusted.
“He bought my partner a Nivea set. The full bit of paper has been ripped off.
“They have opened the Nivea set and opened the card with it.”
Hermes says the external packaging for the parcel was damaged so its team repacked them and said all items have now been “safely delivered”.
It apologised for any inconvenience.
A spokeswoman for Hermes said: “Unfortunately the external packaging for this parcel was damaged.
“Our team repacked them and all items have now been safely delivered. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
