‘I sold my son’s £850 laptop on Vinted five weeks ago and I still haven’t been paid’

A mum-of-four claims she has still not been paid five weeks after selling her son’s laptop on Vinted. Lynsey Taylor is locked in an ongoing battle with the platform after her buyer said he hadn’t received his order despite claims his concierge informed the seller she hand delivered it to him.

The 35-year-old, from Merthyr, claims she has been waiting for the payment since the start of August and had promised to take her son to Folly Farm with the funds. Now she said she has been left trying to explain to him why they haven’t yet been able to go.

On August 9, Lynsey uploaded the Acer gaming laptop, originally purchased for £850, to Vinted with a price of £350. She said she has previously sold a range of clothes and even a VR controller on the platform and never had any problems before. Lynsey explained: “It was a gaming laptop which was my son’s. I think we bought it for him for Christmas around two years ago but he’s never really bothered it with it so it’s practically brand new.”

She said various people were interested in buying the laptop but one buyer was particularly persistent and she said she accepted an offer of £280 after the buyer told her he only had £310 in his bank account.

In messages seen by WalesOnline, the buyer was extremely grateful she’d lowered the price. They wrote back: “No way really? That would mean a lot. Thank you sooo much I’ve been looking forward to having a laptop like this.”

“He was so appreciative that I lowered the price for him,” Lynsey said.

Lynsey posted it on August 12, the same day it was purchased, but she began to become concerned when she was told the parcel had been delivered but there had been no confirmation from the buyer. Vinted then suspended the order meaning she was unable to receive her money.

When the mum asked the buyer what had happened, they said they hadn’t received it and blamed the courier. However, when Lynsey spoke to the courier and the concierge they confirmed it had been delivered and that they’d contacted Vinted to confirm this.

She explained: “His receptionist that signed for it at his apartment block in London said it was hand delivered to him and she described my parcel to a tee. Royal Mail have said it’s been delivered and signed for as well.

“Every single time Vinted have said we are waiting on the courier but they have confirmed to me they’ve delivered it.”

Lynsey is becoming increasingly stressed out by the lack of money, having promised her son a trip out. She said: “It was my son’s laptop and I said to him that we’d use this money to go to Folly Farm because he loves the farm and we’ve just been waiting for the money.

“It’s really hard to explain to him that we’re still waiting on the money so it’s just been stressful since the time it got delivered. He’s saying he wants to go to Folly Farm and I have to keep trying to explain it to him.

“£280 might not seem a lot of money to some but it is for us especially as it was my son’s laptop. I don’t know why they are dragging it out.”

Vinted have been contacted for a response.
