Jennifer Love Hewitt is mourning the loss of her dog, Duke.
In a heartfelt post shared on Wednesday, the actress took to Instagram to share the news of her family’s loss as well as a beautiful tribute to her late pet.
“He was our best friend and yesterday he left us,” she wrote. “The best ones are always the hardest to say goodbye to. Duke you were my first baby and we thank you for all love you gave us and let us feel. Sleep well sweet boy. Eat all the treats and run free.”
Hewitt also noted that Duke had been by her side during major milestones throughout her life, including her pregnancies with her three kids.
“Every person he met was struck by his sweet face and his special nature,” she added.
The actress’s post — that included two photos of her dog — was met with words of encouragement and condolences from friends and fans.
“I’m so sorry 😞 ❤️❤️ he’s forever by your side – sending you and your family so much love,” one commenter wrote.
“We love you guys so, so, so much,” friend and ‘GMA’ anchor Gio Benitez wrote. “Grateful to have met sweet Duke. Sending you so many hugs.”
