‘I’m 52 years old and my hair has never looked better

The internet is brimming with quick-fix solutions to these problems, but the most noticeable changes come with an unwavering commitment to a healthy lifestyle.


Annamaria Kalebic, a 52-year-old beauty influencer, recently shared three lifestyle changes that made a difference to the quality of her hair as she entered menopause.

In a clip shared on TikTok, the content creator credited collagen builders, protein intake and heat-free treatments as the most influential factors.

“Although I’m 52 and going through menopause my hair has never looked and felt better,” said Annamaria. “It is the thickest I have ever known […]. I’ve always thought of myself as having a fine hair.

“Honestly, when I tied it today I thought ‘where is all this hair coming from?’. I think it’s down to […] three things.”

She went on: “When I was approaching my 50s I started drinking this supplement every day without fail and I’ve done it for the last three or four years.

“This supplement is a collagen-builder. It’s not collagen, it’s the components you need to stimulate your own collagen production.”

As one of the most abundant proteins in the body, collagen plays a pivotal role in the tendons, ligaments and skin.

The body replenishes its collagen stock with the help of essential amino acids and protein-rich foods in our diet.

The jury is still out on whether supplements can mimic this effect, but Annamaria claims hyaluronic acid, biotics, vitamin C and Sea Buckthorn, helped restore the lustre of hair.

“It’s definitely made a difference to my hair, nails and skin,” she noted.

The second change that Annamaria introduced was upping her protein intake. This offers a host of benefits to women entering menopause.

“I upped my protein intake,” she declared. “We all think we’re eating enough protein but when you […] properly measure your protein intake over a week, you will see that you’re probably falling short.

“I aim to at least be having 100 grams of protein a day. [Around] 130 grams would be my optimum, […] but 100 grams at the least.”

Annamaria’s last piece of advice is to ditch modern straighteners, which reach scorching temperatures and dry up hair.

“I do not use straighteners on my hair anymore,” explained Annamaria. “I have stopped using straighteners for the past two years and that’s when I really noticed the biggest difference.

“I don’t use anything with plates that flatten my hair and I really think it’s made a big difference. I […] also like to use good-quality shampoo and conditioner. It’s good to switch up your shampoo and conditioner every so often, I really believe that.”
