I’m a postie – people ask how I afford to live but it’s my dream job… it’s stress-free & fits in round my kids

A ROYAL Mail worker has spilled the beans on what it’s really like being a postie, praising the employer for the stress-free environment.

Mum Erica Pettitt took to TikTok to share her experience working for the company and despite some people claiming it was ”toxic”, the postie said it was her ”dream job”.

According to the brunette beauty, who describes herself as a ”metal head”, there are numerous perks to enjoy when you work for Royal Mail.

”There is no stress involved, I get to see amazing houses and views,” Erica told her followers on social media.

What’s more, not only does the happy postie get to see how others in the area live – but she also gets to hang out with pets, stroking cats and dogs whenever she’s on shift.

Proudly posing with the iconic red uniform, the mum went on in the video: ”Being out and about with my music on having a singalong is basically therapy.”

Praising the postal service and courier company, the employee claimed that when she gave birth and had to leave for a bit, she was given ”the most generous maternity leave” – and Royal Mail also helped when she needed someone to look after her kids.

”They accommodated my days and hours to fit my childcare.

”Might not be some people’s idea of living the dream – but it’s mine,” Erica said on her platform.

The mother, who’s been working for the company for six years now, added that ”it was difficult during COVID times but it’s mostly just a breeze”.

After the video took the internet by storm, Erica also replied to some of the questions in the comment section and spilled the beans on how many steps she does every day.

Responding to a viewer, the happy postie said: ”I don’t do walks at the moment just parcels because of my hours.

”My most was 40k when I would do a whole other walk on overtime.”

Although some reckoned that working for Royal Mail may not be the most ”glorious job” out there, Erica said that in her eyes, ”a simple life is a happy life”.

”Got to appreciate what you have got and not what you haven’t!”

With the festive season right around the corner, the employer also added that she would usually get ”a box of chocolates” from those she delivers the mail to.

”I’m happy with that but some people do put money in an envelope or a voucher.”

She went on in the comments: ”If I was childless I probably would have studied to do something else but it fits my lifestyle perfectly.”

Side hustles in numbers

Based on new research from Finder, an estimated 22.8 million Brits are using side hustles to top up their income.

Among those aged 18-23, 68 percent have a side hustle in 2024.

Those aged 24-42 aren’t far behind, with 65 per cent having an additional source of income.

Side hustles are less popular among older generations, with 40 percent of those aged 43-54 having one.

Whereas 23 percent of people aged 55-73 and just 7 per cent of those aged 74 and over are earning extra cash this way.

Hundreds of social media users flocked to share their thoughts, with many praising the positive attitude and even a few posties chimed in with their experience.

One wrote: ”I’m a delivery driver and feel exactly the same! Love my job and get to listen to audio books / podcasts all day.

”No one to answer to, just enjoy my own company, Doesn’t feel like work!”

Another added: ”love this! let’s normalise being stress free instead of chasing the next thing and putting pressure on ourselves. I love my job as a cleaner…..”

A third penned: ”7 years at Royal Mail and I still love the job. It’s physically hard but not mentally I don’t think. Plenty of worse jobs out there!”

”Brilliant. Lovely to see someone enjoying their job and being proud of it too,” someone else wrote.
