Royalty, prime minister and celebrities have graced the wards of Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital following its grand official opening 35 years ago; although the hospital opened its doors to patients in 1985.
It was on April 2, 1987, that its royal namesake Princess Alexandra did the honours in declaring it officiallly open and unveiled a plaque. It wasn’t her only visit as she was to return again 19 years later to open the hospital’s new Orthopaedic Centre.
Since then, further famous faces followed including Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie Blair.
