KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 —The recently held Royal Selangor Jazz Festival brought together jazz fans from all over Malaysia and attracted new people to the genre.
Held at Royal Selangor Visitor Centre, highlights included performances by Tay Cher Siang, Janet Lee, The Frankie Sixes, WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble, The Shang Sisters and David Gomes.
Other performers included Kirana Kay, Rizal Tony, Jiu Shi Yi (JSY), Jo Quintet, Tan Jin Weng Quartet, Bonahop, Po Ann and Eddie Wen.
Tay and TEDx speaker Az Samad also gave a talk titled Irama & Lagu: Searching for Malaysian Identity in Jazz.
Attendees enjoyed activities such as jam sessions, jazz film screenings and food and beverage trucks.
A bazaar with jazz merchandise, rare vinyl records and handmade instruments added to the cultural immersion.
Even children participated, taking part in jazz quizzes and the kids’ colouring corner.
The Royal Selangor Visitor Centre also organised promotions on Royal Selangor, Comyns and Selberan items, as well as at the pewtersmithing workshops.
