Inside swanky £2,000-a-night five-star Hilton Hotel acting as Meghan and Harry’s Invictus Games base

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back being royal – at least in their choice of accommodation for the Invictus Games.

The couple are staying in a £2,000 a night Royal Suite at the five-star Hilton Hotel in the centre of the Hague.

Multiple sources confirmed to Mail Online that the couple booked into the hotel after arriving in the city along with members of their extensive entourage.

Former US presidential bodyguard Christopher Sanchez, who is providing close protection, also has a room at the hotel along with aides from their Archewell production company.

Other guests booked into the hotel had no idea the couple were staying in the luxurious Royal suite that boasts a king size bed and two showers as well as stunning city views from a balcony.

Harry and Meghan have been able to slip into the hotel undetected as they were able to access the suite from a private lift that would take them directly from an underground car park.

The hotel also closed the Executive lounge from last Wednesday until Saturday for other guests to allow the royal couple to use for meetings and drinks with their aides.

Staff at the hotel – where a double room over the Easter weekend costs £400 a night– have been sworn to secrecy.

One member of staff said: ‘We know they have been staying here but it is all confidential and we have been told not to talk to anyone about them.’

Harry and Meghan left the hotel on Sunday night for Amsterdam.

Meghan is understood to have taken a commercial flight back to Los Angeles to be reunited with her children Archie, three- and ten-month old Lili.

The former actress confessed to a military vet that she was missing the two youngsters having been apart from them for the longest time since they were born.

Aides said it was always Meghan’s intention to stay for ‘a few days’ at the games before flying home. Harry stays until the closing ceremony on Friday,

The Prince does not have any events at the Invictus Games that media are allowed to access on Monday.

One source said he was likely to be filming for Netflix who are making a documentary about the games as part of the £100m deal with the streaming giant.

He is also said to be considering doing interviews for US TV stations that have flown over the cover the event.

A driver with their entourage told Mail Online the couple had left for Amsterdam on Sunday evening.

Since arriving in Holland the couple travel in a three-car convoy that sweeps into the underground car park at the red brick building, the former head of the Dutch Post Office

The hotel is also less than 100m from the British ambassador’s private residence and close to the Dutch Parliament.

The couple are thought to have their breakfast and other meals in the executive lounge where they have been able to have meetings with their staff.

On its website the hotel described the royal suite as ‘true luxury’.

The suite comprises of 1,506 sq ft with a private bedroom plus spacious living and dining areas.

It continues: ‘ Located on the top floor of the hotel, the suite offers striking city views from the private terrace.

‘Host an informal meeting in the meeting area and enjoy the convenience of an extra toilet, just off the living area.

‘The lavish bathroom boasts Ecosmart technology, as well as two rain forest showers. Special touches include fluffy bathrobes and slippers, a Nespresso machine and a docking station.’

The hotel restaurant called Blue Blood serves food that is a mix of Japanese and Latin America.

Other guests have given the hotel glowing reviews on the Trip Advisor website,.

One recent guest from Luxembourg wrote on the site: ‘The service at the Hotel Hilton was exceptional. 

‘There was absolutely no issue or questions that was not addressed timely and with satisfactory results.’

‘We were particularly impressed with how the hotel staff anticipated our needs, the quality of the service and overall positive attitude towards our family.’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are being protected in a joint operation involving private security guards and members of the Dutch royal protection squad during the Invictus Games.

A former US presidential secret service agent has been assigned to lead close protection for the couple and it has been left to armed protection officers who usually guard the King of the Netherlands to provide security outside of the venue.

Since arriving at the Invictus Games the couple always travel in a three-car convoy with burly Christopher Sanchez, a former bodyguard to President Obama, sitting in the front seat.

A second Land Rover with two other private security guards follows Harry and Meghan’s vehicle while an unmarked Audi car containing two members of the Dutch Royal protection squad trails behind.

Visitors to the Zuiderpark where the Invictus Games are being staged saw the three-car convoy sweep into the venue with Sanchez one of the first to jump from the car and stand protectively by Meghan’s side.

He was also with her during a book reading to a group of children and sat in a golf buggy that left with Meghan and two of her aides.

Security guards from a company Dutch based First Line Security provide extra back up in the crowd.

They were spotted standing among the fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Meghan during the book reading and stood close by while she posed for selfies. 

All the guards wore earpieces to keep in contact with each other but did not carry firearms.

During Meghan and Harry’s visit the officers from the Dutch Royal Protection squad remained with the cars.

One officer confirmed to MailOnline he was part of the team usually assigned to provide protection for the King of Holland.

He was armed and a small cannister of pepper spray was visible on a utility belt.

Having been given VVIP status Harry would not have to pay for the Dutch royal police to provide protection.

But he will be footing the bill for the ever-present private security firms with one expert in the field saying the cost would be six figures.

Meghan is understood to be returning to America today and likely travel with a bodyguard. Harry does not have any public appearances at the events scheduled but is due to return on Tuesday to meet competitors at two events.
