Health and safety experts are working to establish how a man working at a Wath business suffered catastrophic injuries which claimed his life three days later.
The 43-year-old is understood to have been working at T K Lynskey, a skip hire company in Common Lane, Wath, Rotherham, on Saturday, August 22, when he was injured.
He was taken to hospital but died the following Tuesday, it has been confirmed.
The Health and Safety Executive has confirmed: “HSE are aware of the incident and are investigating”.
South Yorkshire Police, who were also called to the scene, said: “Emergency services were called to a premises in Common Road, Wath, shortly after 9am on Saturday (August 22) to reports that a man had been injured.
“The 43-year-old was taken to hospital where he sadly died on Tuesday, 25 August. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The business is close to a Royal Mail sorting office and it is understood some horrified staff there saw the incident which caused the injuries as it unfolded.
They have reported the worker had been driving an industrial vehicle on site, which appeared to make contact with power cables, causing extensive burns.
In addition to the investigations by the authorities, an inquest will also take place to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
T K Lynskey did not want to comment while the tragedy was under investigation.
