Ipswich Carr Street Post Office could move into former Jessops unit in Butter Market

A former shop could be brought back into use as a Post Office, which has long been a staple of Ipswich’s high street, searches for a new home.

Proposals have been drafted to move the Carr Street office into the former Jessops in Butter Market.

The premises has been empty since the camera store closed its doors in 2020, and Royal Mail believes it could continue to support its business.

Residents have been invited to provide feedback until July 25.

If the Post Office does move, it would still be run by the same Postmaster, the firm said.

It would feature three service points, two screened counters and an additional serving point at the retail counter.

It would also sell stationary and cards.

If the bid is successful, it could be open from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9.30am to 3.30pm on Saturdays.

This would increase its opening hours by more than 7 hours per week, Royal Mail revealed.

However, the former Jessops has an incline at the entrance, which would need to be smoothed out for easy access, it added.

Residents who wish to get involved with the conultation can submit their thoughts to comments@postoffice.co.uk, or postofficeviews.co.uk, quoting store reference, 125130.

In addition, submissions can also be made by post to Freepost ‘your comments’, or by telephone 03452 66 01 15 or textphone 03457 22 33 55.
