BANK holidays always mean slight changes to the usual opening times of your favourite supermarkets and DIY shops – but will your local Post Office be open and can you still receive letters and parcels?
Post Offices provide a lifeline for banking services, collecting benefits, bill payments and to enable letters and parcels to be sent.
So here’s everything you need to know about the Post Office’s opening times with the bank holiday coming up on Monday August 31.
Is the Post Office open on bank holiday Monday?
There are around 11,500 Post Office branches in the UK, the majority of which are run independently or on a franchise arrangement.
“Many” branches are expected to open on bank holiday Monday but it will be up to your local outlet decide.
If it does open, branch opening times may differ as these have always varied, with no set hours across the network.
Customers are advised to use Post Office’s branch finder tool for details of their nearest outlet.
Will I still receive letters and packages on the bank holiday?
Whether you’ll still receive letters and parcels on bank holiday Monday depends on where you live in the UK.
In England, Northern Ireland, and Wales, post won’t be collected or delivered.

How many more bank holidays are there in 2020?
We have another two bank holidays this year.
These are Christmas Day on Friday December 25, and Monday December 28, which is in replacement for Boxing Day as it falls on Saturday December 26 this year.
There have been calls for an extra bank holiday in October due to Brits missing four in lockdown but it looks unlikely to happen.
