Is the Post Office open today during the Queen’s funeral? Bank Holiday Monday, 19th September

September the 19th 2022 has been granted a bank holiday for the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Resulting in the closures of businesses. Are post offices open today and how will this affect your postal services?

The bank holiday was announced by the newly appointed King Charles III. In order for companies to allow staff to be able to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate her reign. As well as to mark the end period of national mourning.

Is the Post Office open today during the Queen’s funeral?

Post offices across the UK will be closed today due to the bank holiday. As well as the suspension of Royal Mail services.

Simon Thompson, Royal Mails chief executive, announced in an official statement that “services will be suspended on the day of the funeral as people come together to honour Her Majesty, after 70 years of exemplary service to the nation and the Commonwealth.”

The Royal family has had a link with the British mail service for over 500 years. When King Henry VIII appointed the first postmaster.

The Queen had a close connection with Royal Mail. Playing an active role in the selection and approval of stamps.

The Queen visited Royal Mail Windsor delivery office on William St, Windsor when on royal engagements for her 90th birthday. Having met several members of staff.

Simon Thompson says that “Royal Mail will play an important role delivering messages of condolence from all around the world to the royal family”.

When will Post Offices reopen and how will this affect postal services?

Post offices are expected to open again tomorrow. Because of this postal services will return to normal schedule. However, it is uncertain how the Royal Mail’s service suspension may influence subsequent mail deliveries and services.

The Royal Mail website states that they “don’t usually deliver or collect on bank and public holidays.” Resulting in a slight delay in postal services after the bank holiday.
