Is there post on Monday? What the 2023 August bank holiday means for Royal Mail and if Post Offices are open

The last bank holiday of the year – other than Christmas and Boxing Day – is already upon us, giving people the chance to enjoy some sunny weather over the long weekend.

Many people around the UK will unfortunately see some rain, with most of the showers forecast for northern and western areas, but there will also be plenty of dry and bright weather, even if temperatures aren’t quite as high as they were early in the week.

Bank holidays come as welcome news to most people, but they can also cause some difficulties, for example if you need to nip to the shops for supplies or urgently post something.

Is there post on Monday?

Royal Mail does not collect or deliver post on bank holidays. Royal Mail says: “We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays. However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on bank and public holidays.”

That means anything you post on Saturday or Sunday will not arrive until Tuesday at the earliest.

While most Post Office branches will be closed on Monday, too, they will be open as usual on Tuesday 29 August. They are always closed on Sundays.

Many private companies, such as Amazon, will deliver as normal on bank holiday Monday.
