‘Is this same Harry who takes helicopters from London to Birmingham?’: Piers Morgan raises eyebrow

‘Is this same Harry who takes helicopters from London to Birmingham?’: Piers Morgan joins in criticism of Prince’s planet-saving brag of wanting only two children in wife’s Vogue

  • Harry told Vogue, edited by Meghan, that they would only have two children
  • He said the couple had made the decision for the sake of the environment
  • But Piers Morgan shot back that the pair take private helicopter and jet flights
  • Meghan Markle’s decision to guest edit September’s Vogue has led to criticism

Piers Morgan has laughed at Prince Harry online for his statement that he and the Duchess of Sussex will only have two children, for the sake of the environment.

In a pointed text sent at 10pm on Tuesday evening, the television presenter and journalist reacted to the news with three ‘laughing until I cry’ emojis.

He went on: ‘Is this the same Harry who uses helicopters to go from London to Birmingham & whose wife uses celebrity mates’ private jets to cross the Atlantic?’

Harry made the comment in an interview in the September edition of Vogue, which his wife guest-edited.

It comes after Mr Morgan criticised the Duchess for her involvement with the fashion bible in a 1,600-word article in MailOnline.

He wrote: ‘News that Meghan has spent the past seven months guest-editing the September issue of Vogue is no surprise to me. As a B-list actress, she’s probably craved all her adult life to be a Vogue star.

‘News that Buckingham Palace has let her do it is a big surprise though, because Meghan is now supposed to be a member of the royal family and not a publicity-craving celebrity.’

He went on: ‘She’s already guzzled at the udder of royal fame like a starving desert traveller arriving at an over-flowing oasis.’

And he concluded: ‘ Here’s my advice to Meghan: take a long hard look in the mirror you stuck on your Vogue cover, and ask yourself one question: “Do I want to be a royal or a virtue-signalling political activist celebrity?”. She can’t be both.’

This spring the royal couple risked the wrath of environmentalists when the Duke took a private helicopter trip from London to Birmingham a month after the Duchess’s private jet flight to a New York baby shower.

In March Harry flew 125 miles for two official engagements in the midlands ahead of a Wembley Arena speech to youngsters about climate change.

Two days later he and Meghan were on stage in the capital telling 12,000 young fans to ‘wake up’ and act ‘on the damaging impact our ways of living are having on the world’.

He talked about how ‘our world’s greatest assets are threatened every day’ adding: ‘Every blade of grass, every ray of sun is crucial to our survival.’

And in February Meghan flew to a New York baby shower by private jet to the fury of environmentalists.

The $500,000 New York trip led to accusations of ‘hypocrisy’ because of her anti-poverty campaigning and the Duchess’ decision to fly by private jet upset environmentalists because the couple have also campaigned on climate change.

A spokesman for Friends of the Earth told MailOnline: ‘Private air travel obviously comes with a huge carbon footprint.

‘Perhaps for future trips the Duchess could consider less carbon intensive modes of travel. We invite her to set a good climate trend by flying less’.

On their trip to Australasia last year Prince Harry said: ‘It is going to take every single one of us to stop the clock on the destruction of our planet, and time is not on our side. The standard we walk past is the standard we accept’.

Yet Meghan chose to fly to New York on a private plane with her friend Amal Clooney rather than travel on one of the many trans-Atlantic commercial flights between the US and UK each day.

One critic tweeted: ‘Meghan & Harry are being billed as Humanitarians. They are Patrons of charities for the disadvantaged. The obscene cost of this 5 day trip is utter hypocrisy. Not to mention the carbon footprint of taking a private jet’.
