It’s Fathers’ Day on Sunday June 18 and Huddersfield Hub is offering a collector’s item as a prize – a book about the history of Huddersfield & District Football League signed by football legend George Best.
The book, entitled: ‘The Origins and History of Huddersfield & District Association Football League’ by Frank Beaumont, has been kindly donated by entrepreneur and philanthropist Graham Leslie CBE for a special competition.
Graham, a former chairman of Huddersfield Town and the driving force behind the building of the John Smith’s Stadium, wrote the preface for the book which was published in 1998.
Graham first bumped into George Best in a restaurant in Venice in the early 1990s and later invited him to speak at a dinner in Huddersfield.
Best signed the book, appropriately enough, at the George Hotel in Huddersfield. Graham has also signed the book and it’s the first prize in our easy-to-enter competition. We also have three copies of the book, all signed by Graham, as runners-up prizes.
To have a chance of winning one of the books all you have to do is answer the following question:
What year was the John Smith’s Stadium officially opened?
Please send your entries by email to martin@huddersfieldhub.co.uk. Don’t forget to include the answer; your full name and postal address; and a telephone number.
Entries must be received no later than midnight on Wednesday June 14. The winners will be selected at random from the correct entries and the editor’s decision is final. Winners will be notified by e-mail.
Prizes will be posted first class by Royal Mail but, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee delivery in time for Fathers’ Day.
