Jameela Jamil defends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in online rant

Jameela Jamil has launched an impassioned rant in defence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, claiming Britons have ‘lost their marbles’.

In a series of extraordinary tweets, she argued it was not safe for ‘civilians’ to be on the same flights as members of the royal family.

In a social media post in support of Harry and Meghan, the 33-year-old actress accused people of bullying Meghan because of her race, adding: ‘You’ve all lost your marbles. It’s 2019. Grow up.’

Harry and Meghan, who have been vocal on environmental issues, have been slammed after it emerged they had flown on private jets four times in 11 days this month.

The Duke and Duchess travelled with their son Archie to Ibiza to celebrate Meghan’s birthday then flew to Nice last week for a brief stay at Sir Elton John’s private villa.

Royal experts have argued that the public don’t want to be lectured on climate change by the couple if they can’t follow their own advice.

But Jameela, who stars in The Good Place and was among the 15 women to feature on Meghan’s recent British Vogue cover, said people were targeting Prince Harry’s wife ‘because she is black’.

She tweeted: ‘Ugh. Dear England and English press, just say you hate her because she’s black, and him for marrying a black woman and be done with it God dammit. Your bullying is so embarrassing and obvious. You’ve all lost your marbles. It’s 2019. Grow up.

‘And ALSO, it’s not safe for us to be on the same planes as royals or presidents you absolute muppets. They are prime targets for kidnap and sometimes assassination. It’s in the interest of us civilians to not be endangered by proximity to people in such powerful positions.’

But Jameela’s tweet prompted scorn from Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, who labelled her a ‘pathetic virtue-signalling twerp.’

This follows a long public spat between the pair, who have previously been embroiled in Twitter rows.

Piers also claimed the actress was a ‘vile racist bully’ today, in reference to a row between the pair in March.

Jameela slammed the GMB host earlier this year for his criticism of Sam Smith – accusing him of ‘spewing constant toxic ideas of ‘masculinity’.’

Piers had commented on how the singer told Jameela he identified as gender fluid, telling GMB: ‘I’m now identifying as Sam Smith so I can get his royalties. It works both ways.’

Jameela retorted: ‘You’re right, it is extraordinary I identify you as any kind of human being at all you giant pile of w**k’, before later calling him ‘hun’.

Piers hit back, tweeting: ‘Don’t call me ‘hun’. I identify as male, but ‘hun’ normally applies to a female (‘honey’) which means you are mockingly mis-gendering me & that’s now apparently a criminal offence in Britain. Unless you meant ‘hun’ as a derogatory term for Germans in which case you’re a racist.’

Jameela joins a growing number of figures who have come out in support of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan’s best friend Jessica Mulroney, friend of the royals Elton John, singer Pink and US chat show host Ellen Degeneres have all spoken in defence of the couple.

Ellen DeGeneres said the couple were ‘only trying to make the world better’, as she condemned those branding the royal couple hypocrites after using private jets four times in 11 days.

She said her and her wife Portia de Rossi met the couple on a trip to England to ‘talk about their work on wildlife conservation’ and said they were very impressed.

Ellen posted on Instagram: ‘Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation.

‘They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.’

Jessica Mulroney says her best friend Meghan Markle has been the target of ‘racist bullies’ after the Duchess and Prince Harry were heavily criticized for their recent private jet jaunts.

Mulroney took to Instagram on Tuesday to say the Duchess of Sussex had been unfairly criticized and suggested that race was a factor.

‘When someone faces unfair criticism, you call it out. When that person is your friend and your family, you call those critics what they truly are. Shame on you, you racist bullies,’ Mulroney wrote.

She added: ‘Three years of undeserved hate and abuse. It’s enough.’

Mulroney had earlier shared the tweet by Jameela Jamil.

British MPs have also said the trips don’t fit with their public image they project of themselves being eco-warriors.

Sir Elton John was also among those to leap to the couple’s defense.

He said he had provided the family with a private flight to ‘maintain a high level of much-needed protection’.

Sir Elton wrote on social media that he had made sure the flight was carbon neutral by making the ‘appropriate contribution’ to a carbon footprint fund.

‘I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,’ he said.

‘Prince Harry’s mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.

‘After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home.

‘To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.

‘To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint.

Outspoken actress critiques fat-shaming family and celebrity diet products

Just days ago, Jameela Jamil hit out at her ‘fat-phobic’ family, claiming she no longer speaks to her parents after suffering with anorexia as a teenager.

Speaking to The Sunday Times Magazine, she said her ‘fat-phobic’ family were ‘not helpful’ while she was battling an eating disorder as a teenager because ‘jutting hipbones were seen as a sign of brilliance at home’.

The actress is also outspoken about other celebrities using their public platforms to promote diet products – but faced a backlash after criticising Kim Kardashian’s make-up line.

Jameela claimed she would rather ‘make peace with her million stretch marks and eczema’ than use the American’s reality star’s products.

But some fans hit back, arguing the cream was designed to help with skin disorders and they should not be ‘shamed for using it’.

The actress later issued an apology for ‘coming across as preachy.’

‘I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis. Elton.’

Harry and Meghan generated an estimated seven times the emissions per person compared to a commercial flight when flying home from Nice.

The trip to Nice came shortly after Harry and Meghan had returned by private jet to the UK from Ibiza after a six-night break on the Spanish island to mark the Duchess’s 38th birthday.

Ellen DeGeneres has since come out in support of the royal couple, saying they are ‘only trying to make the world better’.

She said her and her wife Portia de Rossi met the couple on a trip to England to ‘talk about their work on wildlife conservation’ and said they were very impressed.

‘Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation,’ she posted on Instagram.

‘They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.’

The Duke and Duchess sparked fury again among some of their followers on Instagram by posting a quote on Monday from Archbishop Desmond Tutu on about doing ‘your little bit of good’.

‘Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world,’ the quote read.

Kensington Palace has so far declined to comment on Harry and Meghan’s trips.
