James Cropper has agreed a new collaboration involving high-value composite materials made from carbon fibre.
The Cumbrian group will team with US-headquartered lightweight composites specialist Hexcel on the initiative.
The two companies will work with the Aerospace and Defence working group on the European Composites Circular Alliance (ECCA), which is an initiative from the European Composites Industry Association.
The aim is to advance developments of high-value composite materials made from recycled carbon fibre “that support both performance and circularity across aerospace, automotive and mobility sectors”.
James Cropper CEO David Stirling commented: “This collaboration is a significant step in advancing our aligned fibre technology into high‑performance composite markets.”
He said it would accelerate the adoption of James Cropper’s Vectis industrial-scale technology for fibre alignment. The technique is used in the manufacture of its Unimat product range.
“This partnership-led model strengthens our route to market, reinforces our position in higher‑value growth sectors, and supports the delivery of sustainable long-term value for shareholders,” Stirling asserted.
Advanced materials is a key growth area for the historic papermaker, which launched its own range of coloured papers, Coloursource, last year.
Shares in James Cropper were up 6.56% on the news, to 325.00p in early trading (52-week high: 414.50p, low: 125.15p).
