Jockey Michelle Payne turned heads in a royal blue custom dress at the 2022 TAB Champions Stakes Day at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday.

The 37-year-old, who rode the winning horse Prince of Penzance at the 2015 Melbourne Cup, looked fabulous in the dress by Jason Grech.

She added flair to her ensemble with a blue jewelled harness with a halter strap that also belted around her waist.

Her matching blue fascinator, by Richard Nylon, was the perfect addition to her outfit, while her brown hair was pulled back into a low bun.

Payne accessorised with silver jewellery – including a pinky ring, a tennis bracelet and small hooped earrings.

The Channel 10 Melbourne Cup Carnival commentator paired her look with pale blue heels and kept her makeup minimal.

Stakes Day marks the fourth day of the annual Melbourne Cup Carnival and has the most relaxed dress code of all the races.

Cool and casual is the dress code, with floating summer dresses and simple but elegant headpieces the go-to fashion choice for female racegoers.

The carnival’s last event is unofficially dubbed Family Day, with a number of marquees in the invite-only Birdcage closed for the final and most relaxed day of the carnival.

Last year, Payne stunned in a retro frock at the 2021 Stakes Day.

The jockey frequently explained that there is a wide misconception held by many when it comes to the treatment of horses in the racing industry.

‘If they saw these horse everyday, they’d see how well cared for and happy they are,’ The 2015 Melbourne Cup winner told Stellar.
