Jodhpur: Rajasthan’s rough-hewn ‘Blue City’ of royal grandeur

In this video, we take a pre-Covid trip to Jodhpur, second city in India’s northwest state of Rajasthan.

Known locally as the “Blue City”, Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts, and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar Desert.

Among Jodhpur’s most notable attractions are the towering Mehrangarh Fort – a 15th-century fortification, museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site – the blue bylanes of its old city, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jaswant Thada, and the Ghant Ghar, or Clock Tower.

Tourists are also within proximity to Mandore Garden, Kaylana Lake and Garden, Balsamand Lake, Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, Ratanada Ganesh Temple, Toorji Ka Jhalra, Sardar Samand Lake and Palace, Masooria Hills, Veer Durgadas Smarak (monument, park, and museum) and Bhim Bhadak Cave.

Today, while the centuries have taken their toll, the royal grandeur associated with Jodhpur allow it to remain a rough-hewn hub of culture at a time when many of India’s cities are being transformed by the tech industry.
