Ivan Gilmour is set to mark his 40th anniversary with Royal Mail in kind-hearted style, by hosting two fundraising events for a cancer charity that means the world to him.
To raise as much money as possible for Care for Cancer, Ivan Gilmour, who is also vice chair of the charity, is organising a ‘40,000 steps challenge’ and a sponsored four mile walk.
The latter will be followed by an open day at Care for Cancer’s friendly Campsie-based premises, where refreshments and live music can be enjoyed.
For Ivan, the two events enable him to tie his love of walking with his passion for fundraising.
“Both Royal Mail and Care for Cancer have been a massive part of my life to date, and I love walking,” Ivan explained.
“Similarly, community is also very much a part of my life and I enjoy fundraising, so I thought this was a good way to tie both together.”
Ivan added, “The sponsored walk is a fun day for all ages and abilities, and everyone doesn’t have to do the walk, but are free to just call at Care for Cancer’s centre for the craic during the day.”
Any amounts, small or otherwise, will go towards the wonderful charity, which covers Omagh and its surrounding areas.
Those who pay tax can give Gift Aid which the charity can claim back, and a JustGiving page for Care for Cancer is also available online.
Events
• Between September 15 and September 22, Ivan is encouraging people to walk 40,000 steps, getting sponsorship for the same.
• Then on September 22, a four mile walk will take place, starting out at Care For Cancer’s centre. Registration for this event will take place at 10.30am, and the walk will depart at 11am.
Refreshments, including tea and coffee, will be served and the Moore family will kindly provide the music.
