Four Just Stop Oil activists were arrested on Friday as the organisation’s attempts to disrupt the summer of sport continued at the Open.
Merseyside Police and security guards at Royal Liverpool moved quickly to ensure there was minimal disruption after one male scurried on to the edge of the 17th green and threw orange confetti, while a female carrying an Amnesty International bag behind him was also apprehended.
The pair were marched away by nine officers while two further arrests were made shortly after and they were all taken for questioning.
This was Just Stop Oil’s latest attempt to grab attention after stunts at the Grand National, Wimbledon, the Crucible and Lord’s. Officials from Royal Liverpool ensured there was minimal disruption to play.

The group consisting of Zach Johnson, Matt Wallace and David Micheluzzi had a short delay as the playing surface was cleaned by groundsmen with industrial blowers.
A statement from Merseyside Police said: ‘We respect the right to protest and expression of views but antisocial, criminal behaviour or disorder will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly.’
