She wrote: ‘Almost a year ago I was contacted by the Royal Mail with the incredibly moving and exciting news that they would be issuing a special set of Porridge themed stamps.

She added: ‘Its a gorgeous tribute and I do want to say thank you so much to the Royal Mail and also to the millions of you who alerted me to the stamps even though I had known about them for a year – it was incredibly sweet of you to think of me.
‘Bless you. And long live Porridge, whose moment it seems will never pass x’
David Gold, director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail, said: ‘Porridge continues to resonate with audiences even after five decades thanks to the quality of the writing and the characters the cast brought to the screen.
