Doggy doubles! Royal fans go wild after Kate Middleton and Prince William pose with President Higgins’ beloved pooch Bród in VERY similar photos to Harry and Meghan’s

  • Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met President Higgins in Ireland yesterday
  • The couple posed for photos with President Higgins’ beloved dog, Bród
  • Royal fans noted they were similar to photos taken of Harry and Meghan in 2018
  • Social media supporters praised both royal couples for being animal lovers

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sparked comparisons to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they posed for photos with the Irish President and his adorable dog in Dublin yesterday.

Prince William, 37, and Kate, 38, couldn’t resist the charms of Bród, the Bernese Mountain Dog, as they visited President Higgins and his wife Sabina at Aras an Uachtarain on the first day of their Irish royal tour.

The meeting was captured in photos that strongly resembled those taken of Prince Harry, 35, and Meghan Markle, 38, during their visit to the presidential property two years ago.

The similarity was not lost on royal supporters, who took to social media to praise both couples for their shared love of animals. Both the Sussexes and Cambridges are proud dog owners.

One account, rroyalfamilyy, shared a side-by-side comparison of the two meetings, while other social media users commented on the Kensington Palace Instagram account.

One wrote: ‘When Harry and Meghan came to visit [Ireland] they also visited the President and as the President adores his two dogs Harry and Meghan met them too.’

Another claimed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were ‘copying’ the Sussexes 2018 visit.

Harry and Meghan met both Bród and President Higgins’ other Bernese Mountain Dog, Síoda. Síoda is understood to have missed yesterday’s engagement because he was nursing a paw injury.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge kicked off their three-day royal tour of Ireland – their first to the country – with a busy schedule of engagements on Monday.

The couple flew to Dublin Airport on a commercial Aer Lingus flight with dozens of residents returning home, business travellers and tourists.

They stopped off at Aras an Uachtarain and laid a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance. The quiet open space is dedicated to those who rose up against British rule in 1916 and gave their lives for Irish independence.

Later at the Gravity Bar in the Guinness Storehouse – a major visitor attraction in the Irish capital telling the story of the famous drink – the couple met a range of people from the creative arts, sport, business and charity sectors.

They will return to the UK on Friday, meaning they will miss Prince Harry’s Endeavour Fund Awards in London, which the Duke of Sussex will be attending with Meghan Markle. William attended the inaugural ceremony in 2017 but has not been for several years.
