Kate Middleton opted for a 70s inspired ensemble as she stepped out at the Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum today.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 38, cut a stylish figure in a jazzy electric blue £295 blouse by British designer Tabitha Ward, which featured pussy-bow detail.

The mother-of-three, who was launching the next stage of her early years work, paired the silk blouse with £130 high-waisted Jigsaw trousers, which she first wore during a visit to the Henry Fawcett Childrens Centre in Lambeth last year.

During her visit, Kate launched a five-question survey, which aims to give people across the UK the chance to share their views on the next generation.

The royal completed her bold outfit with a simple black belt and gold jewellery – including a bangle which she fashioned on her right wrist.

The natural beauty wore her hair in her usual bouncy blow dry, and kept her make up natural for the occasion.

Stylists have previously revealed how the pussybow blouse, which has fast become a staple in Kate’s wardrobe, is an ‘edgy’ but conservative piece for the Duchess.

Speaking to FEMAIL, stylist Susie Hasler, who runs Styled By Susie, suggested the neckline flattered ‘all shapes’ while remaining a more edgy piece, making it an essential for stylish royals.

The style could be a nod to Princess Diana, who famously wore a white pussybow blouse along with a bold blue suit for her engagement photographs.

The royal opted for the look on several other occasions, including for the 1985 Trooping the Colour parade.

Susie revealed the neckline was ideal for her elegant, yet girly, style, adding: ‘Kate is traditional and feminine with the clothes she wears – that’s why she has her bow tied up.’

The royal has also showcased Tabitha’s designs on several occasions, wearing her flower print Penelope dress for her visit to the tiny island of Tuvalu on the last day of the nine-day Diamond Jubilee tour of the South Pacific with husband Prince William in 2012.

The designer is a close friend of Kate’s sister Pippa, who teamed up with Tabitha to create a two-piece limited edition collection to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation in 2015.

The mother-of-three donned the trendy outfit as she took the next steps in her early years work today, by launching a five-question survey designed to bring together the thoughts of as many people as possible.

It aims to recognise that everyone has a role in ensuring strong, healthy foundations for the youngest in society that will positively affect their lifelong outcomes.

Feedback from the survey will also help to focus Kate’s work through The Royal Foundation.
