Kate Middleton is ‘a bit like Prince Philip,’ royal biographer claims

Kate Middleton is ‘a bit like Prince Philip supporting the Queen’ because she’s careful not to ‘outshine’ Prince William but still ‘has a lot to say,’ royal biographer claims

  • Relationship with Prince William been compared to Prince Philip and the Queen
  • Added Kate Middleton has ‘a lot to say’ but ‘doesn’t outshine’ her husband

The Duchess of Cambridge is ‘a bit like Prince Philip’ in the way she supports Prince William, a royal expert has claimed.

Royal biographer Penny Junor has compared Kate Middleton’s relationship with the Duke of Cambridge, 38, to the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, and the Queen, 94.

She added that while the mother-of-three still has ‘a lot to say,’ she tries not to overshadow the future Queen, perhaps mindful of how this became an issue between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

‘She’s never trying to outshine him in any way,’ claimed Penny, speaking to People Magazine.

However, one might argue that it’s impossible for the glamorous Duchess not to command attention on royal engagements, much as she might try to take a backseat.

‘I think that Kate is a bit like Prince Philip supporting the Queen. She doesn’t outshine William, but still has a lot to say herself,’ Penny explained.

Royal author Sarah Gristwood went on to say that part of the Duchess of Cambridge’s strength as future Queen sits in her relationship with Prince William.

She added that Kate, who returned to royal duties with a visit to a local garden centre in Norfolk on 19 March, is a ‘supportive figure’ to Prince William.

She explained: ‘In one sense hers and William’s was a modern royal marriage, in that it was a love match.

‘But in another it has been old-fashioned. She mostly appears as a supportive figure to her husband.’

Kate’s visit to the local garden centre last Friday marked the Duchess’ first official engagement since the start of lockdown on March 23.

During the visit, the royal revealed she and William have been making trips to go ‘food shopping’ in recent weeks but have otherwise been at home with their three children, Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two.

She said the children have been growing tomato plants and have been learning about the importance of spending time outside.
