Kate Middleton: ‘Queen-in-waiting’ delivers ‘leadership message’ for Remembrance Day

After posting the video on her social media channels, Kate Middleton then released a personal statement. Kate posted on her Twitter and Instagram socials: “‘It was a true honour to spend time with Colonel Blum and thank him for the sacrifices he made for our country. Speaking to him highlighted again to me why Remembrance is so important, and why we must pay our gratitude to those who fought and died so we could live in peace today.

“We must keep their stories alive for generations to come. And many congratulations to Emily for receiving her centenary remembrance badge’ C.”

The Duchess of Cambridge personalised the end of her message with a simple ‘C’ for Catherine, the Duchess’s full name.

Judi James, a professional speech analyst, spoke with Express.co.uk about this message, and analysed what Kate was trying to say with her social media post.

Judi said: “Kate’s wording here sums up her entire approach to this meeting as she pushes herself into the background of the message and Colonel Blum and Emily firmly into the foreground in a way that shows respect and a sense of genuine humility.

“Kate groups herself verbally with the rest of the public here but her message has a firmness that perhaps gives us a guide to her future role as Queen.

“It is essentially a leadership message.

“Kate has used her conversation with the Colonel to be reminded of ‘the sacrifices he made for our country’.

“She then scopes that message out using some strong leadership terms like ‘we must’, which she uses twice rather than ‘we should’.

“It’s a caring message but also an unequivocal one too and it is this blend of humility tinged with firm leadership that makes Kate sound so ideal for the role of Queen-in-waiting.”

For the short clip, Kate wore a tartan coat and a long jersey dress.

Her dark green and blue tartan coat matched Emily’s dark green Cub Scout uniform and Colonel Blum’s navy blue suit.

The Duchess’ coat seemed to be new but its dark colours, plaid pattern, and gold buttons made it very similar to a jacket royal fans had seen Kate wear before.

However, the coat seen in the video had a wider collar in the style of a blazer and it featured small gold buttons on its sleeves.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will join Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as the Queen, at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday this weekend.

Although she has recently been ill, the Palace said it was the Queen’s “firm intention” to attend the annual wreath-laying service in Whitehall.

William and Kate will also attend the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening.

Yesterday, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was seen at Westminster Abbey to mark the minute’s silence held across the country for those who died in the First World War.
