The Princess of Wales has delighted fans with her salon-perfect hair styles over the years, but the royal is now also impressing with a newfound fondness for fuss-free DIY up-dos.
Since she first married Prince William in April 2011, Kate has enjoyed experimenting with a carousel of different styles – from bouncy blow-dries to bangs – for public appearances.
However, when the future Queen, 44, paid a visit to Wakefield Rugby Club yesterday, the royal showed that she’s just as comfortable with a low-maintenance look, styling her hair into a neat plait for the final part of her engagement in West Yorkshire.
‘What a wonderfully versatile and chic look for the Princess’, a fan of Kate’s hairstyle wrote on the social media platform X.
Another cooed that Kate’s braid was ‘amazing’, while one observer said the royal’s low-key look suited her, writing: ‘She looked stunning!’
It’s not the first time the Princess of Wales has showcased her deft hair skills mid-engagement.
In September, during a visit to Marina Mill in Kent, Kate was seen effortlessly scooping her hair up into a bun, without a mirror or even a hairband to aid her.
As the future Queen prepared to try her hand at fabric painting, the down-to-earth royal swept her tresses up into the elegant bun, all while listening attentively to instructions for the craft class.

The technique Kate used is a version of the ‘wrapped ponytail’ or ‘twist-through bun’ adopted by several hair stylists as it ensures that the hair can remain in place without any visible accessories required
The moment was captured during a visit to the Kent-based mill, a British family business that specialises in hand-designing and screen-painting furnished fabrics.
They supply dozens of royal homes – from Buckingham Palace to Clarence House to Highgrove, and even the Prince and Princess of Wales themselves – and are world-renowned for the quality of their handmade fabrics.
Taking to X, one impressed royal fan noted that while attempting Kate’s hairstyle was ‘possible’, it ‘never comes out this perfect’, and praised the princess for her ability to style her locks so effortlessly.
‘She’s a magician!’ they quipped.
The genius hair styling hack saw the princess gather her hair into a ponytail and then twist the end of it once around itself.
She then proceeded to thread the rest of the ponytail through that loop to ensure her gorgeous locks stayed in place.

While Kate has often experimented with different hairdos, her bouncy blow-dry has always been a key part of her style repertoire since she first debuted the look during her engagement photocall in 2010.
When newly engaged Kate and William stood side-by-side at St James’s Palace to announce their joyous news, the soon-to-be bride kept her hair simple, while also incorporating some longer side pieces and layers.
To ease her nerves, the future princess also made a deliberate ‘point of placing her hands on her lap so that she didn’t fidget with her glamorous hair’, royal author Katie Nicholl said at the time.
However, in recent years, it appears that the princess may have realised that a simple up-do can be more practical when it comes to undertaking engagements – particularly those that require her rolling up her sleeves.
When the Prince and Princess of Wales made their first joint engagement in Pontypridd, Wales, for more than a year to mark St David’s Day, Kate was seen struggling slightly with her sweeping locks as the couple made Welsh cakes.
The future King and Queen tried their hand at making the national delicacy at the town’s local market, before William hand-delivered the entire tray to well-wishers who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the royals.
At one stage, a rather surprised Kate turned to William and said: ‘Those are so good. How did you do that?’
In response, William then joked: ‘Well I don’t know, my stunning bakery skills, Mary Berry taught me everything I need to know.’
During the summer, Kate debuted her dazzling chestnut Bronde hairdo which soon saw the ‘Kate Effect’ sweep the salons as dozens flocked to achieve their own effortless dupe of the look.
The caramel hue shade, believed to have been the work of Mario Charalambous, salon director at Richard Ward’s London salon, was unveiled during a visit to the Natural History Museum and sent royal fans into a tizzy.
Meanwhile, experts have also remarked on the versatility of the style, as well as the fresh new aesthetic it brings.
Dubbed the ‘Posh Mum Bronde’, esteemed hairdresser Jo Hansford previously told the Daily Mail that the glamorous shade’s ‘depth and richness’ creates a ‘modern and timeless’ look that is a perfect fit for Britain’s future Queen.
Ms Hansford, who was awarded the prestigious Royal Warrant of Appointment from Her Majesty The Queen, added: ‘Polished and understated, her hair radiates sophistication and elegance, which are hallmarks of Catherine’s signature style.’
