A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a pregnant woman and the manslaughter of her baby son, who was delivered at the scene but later died.
Kelly Mary Fauvrelle, was aged 26 and eight months pregnant, when she was killed in the bedroom of her home in Croydon, south London. Paramedics delivered her son, named Riley by her family, via caesarean section but he died in hospital four days later.
On Sunday, Aaron McKenzie, 25, from Peckham, was charged with the murder of Fauvrelle, a Royal Mail worker, and the manslaughter of Riley. He has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon. Scotland Yard said he would appear at Camberwell Green magistrates court on Monday.
Fauvrelle’s whole family – her mother, two brothers, as well as her sister and the sister’s baby son – were in the house at the time of the attack and relatives said they heard her screams at around 3.30am.
DCI Mick Norman described Fauvrelle as “a popular but also a very private person”, who was looking forward to being a mother.
Two men had previously been arrested on suspicion of murder. One, aged 37, was released with no further action, and a second, aged 29, has been released on bail until early August.
