Kelly Mary Fauvrelle: Man guilty of murdering pregnant ex-girlfriend and killing their unborn child | UK News

A man has been found guilty of murdering his heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend and killing their unborn child.

Aaron McKenzie, 26, broke into Kelly Mary Fauvrelle’s house in Thornton Heath, south London in the early hours of 29 June last year.

He stabbed her 21 times in a “vicious and cowardly” rage of jealousy after their relationship ended, the Old Bailey heard.

Their unborn baby, who was named Riley, was delivered by caesarean section but died in hospital four days later.

Today jurors took two hours and 46 minutes to find McKenzie, of Peckham, guilty of the murder of Ms Fauvrelle, who was also 26 and 33 weeks pregnant, and the manslaughter of her baby.

He was also convicted of being in possession of a knife.

As McKenzie, who worked as a crane driver, was taken from the dock, a man shouted from the public gallery: “How do you feel, you evil coward?”

Others clapped briefly as another man shouted “it was your baby”.

His trial was told Ms Fauvrelle’s relationship with McKenzie ended in early 2019.

The Royal Mail worker had described the relationship as “toxic”, but said she would not stop him seeing their unborn child, jurors heard.

One message she sent him read: “Until u get the fact I don’t want to be with you anymore…I will no longer speak or see you unless is about the baby”.

Prosecuting, Duncan Penny QC described McKenzie breaking into his ex-partner’s home, telling the court: “The intruder proceeded to launch a vicious and a cowardly attack upon her, inflicting a total of 21 stab wounds with a knife.

“In the process, the intruder murdered not only Kelly Fauvrelle, but through his attack upon Kelly he killed Riley, the unborn child she was carrying.”

But in the hours after the killings, McKenzie pretended to have nothing to do with it, the court was told.

He even went to hospital “posing as a victim”, Mr Penny added.

Despite spending the hour before the incident reading her emails, McKenzie continued to deceive police, hospital staff and Ms Fauvrelle’s family until he was arrested and “confessed”.

Claire Mays, from the CPS, said after the case: “This was a vicious and cowardly attack on a heavily pregnant woman, which was borne out of jealousy.

“Just hours after carrying out the attack, McKenzie went for a driving lesson as if nothing had happened.

Detectives investigating the murder of Kelly Mary Fauvrelle in Thornton Heath have released CCTV footage of a man they wish to trace.

“By choosing to take this tragic case to trial, McKenzie took the family of his victim through the heartbreak and ordeal of listening to all of his lies and the damning evidence against someone who had once been a part of their family.

“Although nothing can bring back Kelly and Riley, I hope these convictions provide some comfort to the family.”

McKenzie will be sentenced on 17 July.
