King Charles and Princess Anne had ‘tense’ relationship – now ‘warm and supportive’

Sibling rivalry is not reserved for non-royals, and body language expert Judi James suggested that King Charles and Princess Anne may have had some of this until recently. However, according to the expert, their relationship has become “seamless” in the wake of their parents’ deaths.

Judi suggested to Express.co.uk that in the wake of their parents’ deaths, Charles and Anne’s relationship has gone from strength to strength.

And despite their “contrasting personality traits, competitiveness and a tendency to – as Anne herself was once said to describe it – ‘fight like cats and dogs’,” their body language signals now imply “warmth, support and empathy for their royal responsibilities”.

The body language expert implied that their relationship was not always so straightforward, however, due to totally contrasting personalities.

She stated: “Over the years though there has often been signs of tension in the relationship.

“While Anne inherited their father’s traits of stoicism, confidence and a rather challenging approach to social interactions, Charles was always more sensitive and introspective.”

She continued: “Charles might have been destined for the top job but it was Anne winning respect in her own right when she competed with Team GB in the Olympics.”

Indeed, Judi claimed: “Anne seems to have the natural leadership skills that Charles sometimes lacks.”

Indeed, “even her position in the family has always looked more relaxed and organically central than the more reflective and often isolated and soulful looking older brother”.

Anne possibly had more of a presence as the two were growing up side by side, only two years between them, Judi claimed.

“Early photos of the siblings will often show a very playful or laughing Anne mirroring or commanding the attention of both parents while Charles is often even apart from the scene, both physically and with his contrasting facial expressions.

“As teenagers we can see Anne looking confident and even comfortable in her own skin, throwing amused glances at a much more self-conscious-looking Charles.”

Judi hinted that it is only recently that the royal duo appeared to get close, as “over the years there have been royal appearances that have involved minimum in the way of transactions between the pair”.

The expert claimed: “It is only their more recent poses that have shown what looks like a new level of mutual understanding and maybe even channeling their personality differences to provide strength and support to each other.”

Judi concluded: “Anne was never ‘the spare’ but she must have lived most of her life aware that she possessed strengths of character that might have been ideal for the job of monarch.”

However, the way the Princess navigated this set of skills allowed her relationship with her brother to prosper, the expert believes.

“Unlike authentic royal ‘spares’ she seems to have channeled this into a bonus by adding loyalty and a powerful work ethic into the mix, meaning she and her brother can now shuck off any historic differences and work seamlessly together at the very top level of the Firm.”
